If you have been reading my blog for some time, you would know that I am a huge traveller. I love exploring new parts of the world and get such a satisfaction ticking off different countries after visiting them on my never ending list of ‘places I must go’. Myself and my boyfriend (fiancé) ‘ruined the surprise for you now’ – visited the island of Greece, Santorini for our first of many trips this year. I have been so excited to visit the dreamy island of white layered buildings, amazing food and breathtaking views so I made it our plan to visit very quickly.
We stayed in a gorgeous hotel called Petit Palace Suites which is situated just outside the main town in Santorini, Fira. I wanted to start by saying our hotel was absolutely stunning, myself and George stayed in one of their Honeymoon Suites, which I am going to be real with you is one of the most expensive suites but I would honestly do it all over again. Santorini is known for having a massive privacy issue as everything is built on top of each other it is very hard to find a hotel where by passers can’t see what your doing on your private balcony, but our room was one of the last built towards the edge of the ocean which meant we had all the privacy we needed and the best view!!
Installed with our own private pool, a mini fridge and a bluetooth speaker we were on our way to the best holiday yet!! Our hotel within the price came with a selection of breakfasts you could order and eat at the restaurant each morning or could be bought to you in bed (how good is that?). A few times we did have a cheeky lie in and had breakfast out on our balcony in the morning because you couldn’t get a better view than this!!
Our hotel also came with a complimentary shuttle bus to and from the local town Fira around 5 times a day which was great. Fira is such a beautiful town with endless restaurants, bars and shops, you can’t get bored, we ended up going into the town almost everyday because we loved it so much. We found a gorgeous restaurant called Zafora which was right at the top of a hill in Fira that we went to a few times because the food was so damn good, the restaurant had a lovely outside seating area which was surrounded by big glass panels with the most spectacular view to look at whilst eating lunch.
A couple of days into our stay we decided to grab a taxi from our hotel which cost 28euros to the town Oia, this is the town you constantly see over Instagram whenever searching ‘Santorini’ with the gorgeous blue dome buildings and the picturesque backgrounds. We spent the day there mooching around the luxury shops and having lunch out. Oia is stunning but if you are thinking of visiting Santorini I would not urge you to stay there on the Island, yes it does look beautiful however hotel prices are 5x more and there isn’t as much to do around the top of the island, your much better staying towards the bottom of the island like we did and have a 5 minute taxi journey to the local town. Saying that, of course I didn’t hesitate to grab a few Instagram pictures whilst we were up there.
On our third night we decided to eat at the restaurant at our hotel for dinner which I was very excited about, I had heard so many amazing reviews over on TripAdvisor about the food I couldn’t wait to fill my belly up!! Both me and George went for the black angus stake which was the best meal I have ever had, I kid you not. Little did I know after finishing dinner and standing out on the balcony of our hotel, George got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!! I was in complete shock but I couldn’t be happier. FYI – HOW AMAZING DID HE DO AT PICKING THE RING!!
After all the excitement, phone calls and my social media blowing up we had a great rest of evening visiting Fira and going to a few of the bars to celebrate, lets just say Paige had one too many cocktails.
Towards the end of our trip we decided to go on a boat trip to visit and climb the volcano which was awesome. Booking boat trips and other excursions is really simple out there and the people were so helpful, we visited a place in Fira where they do different boat trip packages and decided to go for the volcano and hot springs trip which was only 20euros each. The volcano hike was really fun even if my calves did hurt 3 days after it was such fun to experience and learn more about the island and its surroundings.
We had the most amazing time in Santorini and we couldn’t have asked for a lovelier hotel to stay in, I couldn’t fault a thing, the food, room, staff and views were all amazing and a special thanks to Greg the Manager at the hotel who made our stay incredible. Our stay was that good me and George are seriously considering having our wedding over in Greece which would be magical!!
Let me know where your going on your holidays!!
